For salary-cap purposes, Boston wants a Hayward commitment before it can finalize a trade for George and secure the most dynamic free-agent coup in franchise history, league sources said.
For Boston, here’s the hitch: While Indiana believes Boston can offer the best possible package, the Pacers may be unwilling to wait until the start of July free agency on Boston’s timetable and could turn toward making a deal elsewhere for George, league sources told The Vertical.
Boston has maneuvering to do with its roster, including the shedding of salaries to create space to position itself for this scenario. Boston has contingencies in place to make deals and start a possible Hayward-George scenario toward fruition, league sources told The Vertical. – Adrian Woj
Holy hell. So the sports would has made it their job to discuss just who the Celtics would look to land, either push hard for my day 1 boy Paul George or Gordon Hayward. That has literally been ESPN’s 24 hour schedule with a bit of NCAA baseball and softball here and there. Little did those nerds know, the Celtics are looking to be the heavy favorite in the East.
Any other team, I say no way on God’s green Earth does a team have the opportunity to snag both these guys. But the Celtics, via Danny Ainge and the poor, poor decisions of the Brooklyn Nets, have enough assets to make this happen while simultaneously not entirely selling out the future of their franchise for the chance to contend now.
In a perfect scenario… For the Celtics and my Pacers. Gordon Hayward signs with the Celtics (I say perfect for my Pacers thinking Gordon doesn’t want to come back to his hometown of Indianapolis just yet, of course him signing with us would be MY perfect scenario). Then the Celtics can trade to the Pacers Jayson Tatum for Paul George. I’d for sure take that straight up. That may be a hard sell to get a young number 3 pick for a player that we know is leaving as well as whatever team we are trading with. This would be my ultimate choice. Jayson Tatum is has a chance to be an absolute stud in the NBA.
Imagine the type of contender the Celtics become with these two added to their franchise. Such a deep team. And you got your big 3. Isaiah Thomas, Paul George, and Gordon Hayward. I honestly would take those guys over the Cavs. Of course I am not the biggest LeBron James fan but I sincerely believe Paul George to be the best LeBron equalizer in the league. The Pacers were never a cake walk for LeBron, if you think they were then you didn’t watch the games. This was because of Paul George’s ability to step up when he was playing LeBron, and with the options that the Celtics have they can not double team George. I’m all for it. I can mess with a George Celtics jersey. There’s worse teams and fanbases for him to join (Shouts to Larry Legend).
